The Feet of Jesus!

It was a special Sunday for us with Gill Bonner speaking, and a Liberty Lunch following. There are always a few away or sick, but we found the room comfortably full. Gill is part of the leadership team at Swanton Abbott community chapel and this was her first time visiting us, accompanied by Susie, from the same fellowship.

It was also a poignant time, as it would have been Connie’s 89th birthday. Shirlene had been celebrating her 85th, staying at Brancaster, but drove back in order to be with us. And it was good to have her daughter Sam with us too.

Psalm 37 tells us to delight ourselves in the Lord, and we did! There was praise, worship and joy. Cliff encouraged us to keep an eye on Jerusalem, as prophecies are being fulfilled. Wendy led in prayer, Barry H shared that a situation had caused anxiety until he took it to the Lord. We could see that he is now at peace! Frank read some verses from 2 Timothy 2, encouraging us to follow purity, and to be kind. Later, he shared John 14:1-4, which he feels are comforting words to those recently bereaved.

Mark and Michelle led us in communion. We prayed for John, who has been having mini blackouts, for Sue who has an issue with the lower jawbone, for Craig, as he moves into his new home, and for Bob on Connie’s birthday.

Gill spoke to us, starting with the words from Isaiah 52, that ‘Beautiful on the mountains, are the feet of those who bring good news’ There are a lot of feet in the Bible!

Joshua was given Jericho after walking round it, once a day for 6 days and 7 times on the seventh day.. Enoch walked with God, and God took him straight into heaven. But Gill concentrated on the feet of Jesus, and where they took him. To the sick, who were healed, to the dead, who were raised, to Zaccheus who was despised, and whose life was changed forever, and to many others. We were encouraged to identify with the various needy people Jesus reached out to.

Then to Jerusalem, and to being beaten, mocked, and eventually crucified, with his feet nailed to the cross. He had to push up on those feet in order to breathe, and he was weighed down with his bodyweight – and our sin, which he carried. He died, but rose from the dead. New feet! But flesh and blood feet. He revealed himself to the disciples in the upper room, to two on the road to Emmaus, and to Thomas, who had doubted. Again, we can identify. Then he ascended, and the last the disciples saw of Jesus must have been – his feet!

We reflected on what the Lord had been saying to each of us, and prayed for the grace to respond appropriately.

We sang our theme song (!), ‘You won’t leave here as you came, in Jesus Name!’ Sam closed in prayer.

Wendy had prepared chilli and rice, chicken casserole, and lasagna, with potatoes and roast vegetables, and garlic bread. And deserts. People stayed some time and fellowshipped. Barry H had told us we were family – and that is what we are!

Next meeting is prayer meeting at the Sanctuary on Thursday afternoon.

Next Sunday we are in Frettenham.
